Outreach

The Goodnight Scholarships office connects with communities across the state through a variety of service and outreach initiatives promoting STEM and education.

Goodnight Scholars Outreach Ambassadors

To support our outreach and recruitment efforts, the Goodnight Scholarships office relies on an outstanding group of ambassadors to promote our program and university to potential students and their families. Goodnight Ambassadors play a pivotal role in the outreach efforts of the Goodnight Scholarships office. Goodnight Outreach Ambassadors participate in a number of community outreach initiatives throughout the academic year to help inform North Carolina high school and community college students, families, educators, counselors, and others about the Goodnight Scholars Program, Goodnight Transfer Scholars Program, and NC State University.

Goodnight Scholars STEM Coaches

To pay it forward and promote STEM education, Goodnight STEM Coaches lead engaging, hands-on STEM activities with K-8 students. They help us expand our efforts to encourage the next generation of STEM students. STEM Coaches are trained to deliver and lead STEM enrichment activities with elementary and middle school youth, including demos and workshops. Examples of these events include STEM nights, science fairs, and after-school programs. STEM Coaches also lead virtual events and tutoring sessions, depending upon the needs of our partners. STEM Coaches are responsible for coordinating with their fellow scholars and on-site personnel during these events. We partner with a variety of community organizations, including the Boys & Girls Clubs, Communities in Schools, and Juntos.

This is an effort to continue our investment in students from low- and middle-income families in North Carolina who may not have access to STEM in their schools.

The LEGO Brick Build: An Annual Goodnight Scholars Event

LEGO Brick Build is one of the Goodnight Scholars’ annual STEM outreach activities. Working with the Boys and Girls Clubs of Wake County, scholars and staff of the Goodnight Scholarships office collaborate to create this fun event to inspire young children to become future STEM leaders themselves.

Spring Break NCM2C: North Carolina Mountains to Coast

North Carolina: Mountains to Coast (NCM2C) is an interdisciplinary service-learning trip extending from the mountains to the coastline of North Carolina, focused on providing accessible STEM activities for middle school students in rural communities. This week-long trip gives scholars the opportunity to share their enthusiasm for STEM while leading fun STEM activities connected to the 7th and 8th grade science curriculum. Time was also dedicated to exploring North Carolina’s unique history and natural resources through cultural excursions and outdoor activities.

Spring Break ECO: Environmental Conservation & Outreach 2023

Spring Break: ECO (Environmental Conservation Outreach) is a service-learning trip focused on environmental conservation in Puerto Rico. Our students gave back to the community through several service projects including maintenance and community center restoration in El Yunque National Forest, housing reconstruction of homes affected by Hurricane Maria, and work around Finca Remedio, an eco farm. In their free time, they enjoyed bioluminescent kayaking, exploring San Juan, swimming in rivers, and more!
