Distinguished Goodnight Award Recipients for 2022 Announced

Seniors Vie Villafuerte ‘T22 and Lacey Malinsky ’22 are the recipients of this prestigious community award.

The Distinguished Goodnight Award is presented at the end of the academic year to a graduating  Goodnight Scholar from each cohort who best embodied the core values and mission of the Goodnight Scholars Program through significant involvement in the Goodnight Scholars and NC State communities, along with a dedication to professional development, civic engagement, and scholastic achievement.

Vie Villafuerte will graduate with a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Engineering and a minor in Wildlife Sciences. Within the Goodnight Scholars Program, Vie served as an ambassador, communications assistant, Service Raleigh site leader, and participant of the NC Mountains to Coast service trip. Within the university, Vie was a Sustainability Steward, president of the Global WaSH Student Chapter, and was selected to participate in the Women & Minority Summer Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) in the NC State College of Engineering. After graduation, Vie will remain at NC State to pursue her Master’s in Environmental Engineering. 

Lacey Malinsky will graduate with a Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences with minors in Biotechnology and Nonprofit Studies. Lacey was a 2021 Leader of the Pack Finalist as well as a 2021 Social Innovation Fellow. Within the Goodnight Scholars Program, Lacey served as a mentor, ambassador, and team member on the NC Mountains to Coast service trip. On campus, she has served as a Service Raleigh committee member, TRIO Collegiate tutor, organic chemistry teaching assistant, and COVID testing volunteer. She has also participated in two service-learning internships at local nonprofits that focused on equity in healthcare and education, as well as conducted undergraduate research in the Patisual Toxicology Lab. Upon graduation, she plans to take a gap year before applying to medical school. 

The Goodnight Scholars Program is proud to recognize Vie and Lacey for their outstanding impact on the community through their substantial service, advocacy, and leadership.  They exemplify what it means to be a Goodnight Scholar, and more importantly, what it means to be great human beings.
